Trusting White People

(Video 1)

(Video 2)

Just a couple of months ago, after I posted one of my articles in a WhatsApp group, the reactions of many of the members caused another member to share two (2) videos on the platform.One of these videos (insert: Video 1) was also an extract from an episode of a television show in which the panelists were discussing Africa in relation to the global economy. The other video (insert: Video 2) was a documentary (if I am not mistaking) about an American scientist called Larry Ford, who was an expert on biological weapons. He created germs and viruses that were meant to kill only ‘Black’ people.

Considering the sermons this member who shared the videos had once preached to me, I wonder if he can fully trust any ‘White’ person.  The contents of both videos did not surprise me much because there have been many conspiracy theories claiming that Western nations are behind the wars, poverty and outbreak of the diseases on the African continent. However, one must be careful when commenting or acting on such information in his/her dealings with individuals from the West. I can boldly say there are genuinely conscious ‘White’ people who love to treat all humans kindly and with respect. We all know many of such wonderful and beautiful souls who we can sometimes even trust. Perhaps, we all feel what Prince Ea felt when he said in the conclusion of his "DNA" poem;

.....See, there’s more to your story than society
Is a bridged-version
And just as we must never judge a book by its cover
We must never judge a person by their skin
Because when we use 'MyHeritage DNA' we find amazing chapters hidden within
Each one co-authored by our ancestors I’d say our because humankind is interconnected and intertwined like wines
Springing up from the roots of one tree
One family-tree
That goes by the name humanity

Now, what is to be done about the rest of the ignorant ones who speak and behave honestly but also disgracefully like Lauralee Hickok (a panelist in the video above) who in the last words of her final comments said; “… it will make it much more difficult to exploit them [Africans].” Can you imagine the effects of their loose talks?

Africa! We are rich in natural resources and own beautiful and diverse cultures that are inter-related in a way that promotes co-existence and solidarity among us and tolerance for others. Let us use these things coupled with the positive knowledge we acquire from around the world to develop our continent with no interference from nations and organizations who want to assist us but have a hidden agenda. As independent countries in Africa, we must be self-reliant. However, if we choose to be interdependent then we must be careful.
